As a "for myself" sketch tonight, I played around in the opposite direction from the cartoony Doctor I drew in my previous couple of posts. I went for more high-contrast shadowing. This is realm better handled by the likes of Doctor Who artist Matthew Dow Smith, and legend Mike Mignola.
But, back in art school, I wanted to draw like Mignola, like Brian Stelfreeze. I just couldn't pull off all the shadows.
Still don't think I do, which is why I then went and had texture and effect fun with this.
Ah, well. Something to work on. Something to learn.
Never too old.

You are not far off from your goal, here. I know what you're going for, I can see where you were just shy, but I can't articulate it. (I'd be sleeping if the pressure in my skull would ever ease.)
I really, really like this piece.
Awesomeness. I know I haven't any professional knowledge with which to judge, but I think this is beautifully somber.
His eyes do indeed look old...they make me want to go take a midday nap. Come to think of it, I don't know why the human race sops napping after childhood. It'd do us a world of good...
